Lake Isabella was formed when the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers dammed the Kern River in 1953. What was once a semi arid desert canyon turned in a water playground in Kern County. Lake Isabella is about 40 miles northeast of Bakersfield and about a three hour drive from Los Angeles. Visitors come from all over California to enjoy the lake and surround area. Camping, boating, hiking and exploring
